Top Versus Bottom

It was a matchup between Division B leaders Tucson Super Kings versus last place Phoenix Cricket Club in a Super Bowl Sunday shortened match to just the 30 overs from the usual 40.

Host side PCC was given a gift of what was basically two wickets as TSK was short a few men from their travels from Tucson.

That virtual two wicket lead soon turned to three as Siddhartha Sirsi was run out, leaving TSK at just 1 for 4 after just two overs. But soon the slight momentum that Phoenix Cricket Club had soon evaporated as the Tucson Super Kings didn’t drop another wicket until the 15th over, when Abhishek Parmar was adjudged to be leg before wicket by a delivery from Nageswara Rao Kankanala.

There were several contributors to TSK’s innings total with one of the bigger ones being from Evan Segal who was one run away from his 50 before being caught in the field.

The real offensive star for TSK however was Bhumasamudram Jagadish who batted a solid 65 runs after 82 deliveries, hitting for eight 4s. Jagadish’s fantastic innings came to an even more fantastic ending as Andy Payne bowled a beauty of a ball to knock off the leg side bail. Payne wasn’t done yet as his next delivery was nearly identical and had the same result, crashing into Jeet Gujarati’s stumps for a Golden Duck. Although he didn’t get his hat-trick, Payne’s fantastic bowling cooled down on already hot Super King attack, taking the most important wicket on strike.

TSK ended their innings with 211 runs for a loss of 6 after the scheduled 30 overs.

PCC had a lot of ground to make up that they did after the first over, hitting ten runs in just the first six balls. But that all came to end as Cricket Arizona’s Man of the Match Evan Segal had one of the most spectacular overs by getting three wickets in the 5th over. It would of been a hat-trick of wickets but Carl Chung played the first shot defensively only to be out on the next delivery, giving Segal three wickets in just four deliveries.

PCC soldiered on with Andy Payne coming five short from his 50 before having to retire. The task was too high for PCC, who ended their innings at 150 for 4, 62 runs short.
